AFSer in Japan but graduated in the UK before any friends, how is that possible?
Please introduce yourself I was from Saint Joseph Convent School. When I was in grade 12, I went on AFS intercultural program in Japan for a year.   We heard that you know about Finn because your brother is studying here, right? Yes   And why did you decide to study at the same place as him? I think Finn suits me. At that time, I hadn’t finished grade 11 and I was learning IGCSE as well because I wanted to go study abroad. But my mom didn’t want me to stay abroad for long. So, Finn works for us because I am still with my mom in Thailand and also go abroad in the last year.     Pic1   How much did you have to adapt when you were in Japan? Not much, I would say. It was just different systems with different pros and cons. Japan’s system tends to require you to rely on yourself. They don’t care much about each other so, when you have any questions in class, you can only go ask teachers. Friends wouldn’t tell you. I think it isn’t as free as British system but there are some good points. I didn’t have to adapt much since I quite understand the system in the first place.   How about your 2 years in Thailand at Finn? It was a great environment here; friends were very helpful. When I don’t understand anything, I can go ask seniors and professors. Normally, we would do reports at Finn because we got professors and friends. It was also more relaxing than doing it at home. Regarding study, the rooms were nice and professors taught well. Everyone was not stressed out like in students in Thai universities. It felt like we were having fun with friends but also gaining knowledge.   What and where do you choose to study in your last year? What I think and what professors suggest is University College Birmingham because I would get the degree directly from University College Birmingham which is one of the top 10 universities in the UK. Once I have got a chance to study abroad, I want to do my best and go to the best university I can. So that I can find jobs easily and would be proud of myself when I see the degree. I want to study Business Enterprise because I want to have my own business and this faculty helps me understand that what constitutes a business. The assigned project is also very practical. For example, if I want to open a shop, I need to write a report and professors would give suggestions. This report can be used in the future after graduation which I think it suits me.   Why do you want to have a business of your own? In my opinion, being an employee is good because we don’t have to build up our own business, just help it run. However, I’m quite confident that what I’ve been learning would help me become an entrepreneur. And I think having my own business has a lot more freedom from what I’ve seen from my family. My mother is a business woman and she always has time for me. So, I think if I do business, have time and money, that would be the best for me and my family.   Finn opens up opportunities to those dauntless youths and does not limit your creativity.
