Why did you decide to study at Finn?
I decided to study at Finn because I have a goal to become an entrepreneur. Studying in international programmes in Thailand might be a bit cheaper but the number of students is overwhelming. Finn might cost a little extra but the environment is much better; all professors are nice and, since Finn only accepts limited students each year, we students all know each other well. I also don’t like being surrounded by a lot of people.
It is helpful that Finn requires only 3 years of study instead of 4 years like other universities?
Well… It is one of the reasons why I study here. It is like I have an upper hand over others because
I will be graduated faster and from an international university.
And you are also running your own business right? What is it?
Yes, selling Betta (fighting) fish.
Have you been doing that since high school?
No, I just started when I entered Finn since I have a lot of free time.
How do you sell it?
I sell it online through Facebook groups.
Why selling Betta fish?
It started as it is my preference. I had a lot of free time and I wanted to make it useful. At first, I just pet them as a hobby but after I stayed in the dormitory, I needed to buy their food myself. I found it not worth it to pay 30 baht for BTS just to get the food for 20 baht. So, I tried to sell them at first just for my transportation cost but it sells really well. So now I start as a small business both growing and trading.
Are courses in Finn adaptable to your business?
Sure! at first, I ran my business all from my instinct and so the sell is kind of up and down. But after I study here, I know marketing principles such as selling products as a bundle. Before I sold them individually and it didn’t work but now I sold them as a bundle with free delivery. It works!
It’s like practicing marketing theory in real business, right?
Yes.
Do you think you would survive studying in the UK?
I must survive because I have my goals. Seniors and professors at Finn also help me a lot.
Do you know anyone in the UK?
None. I’ve never been abroad.
Aren’t you scared?
Not really, except the flight. I’m acrophobic.
If you go to Britain, you are going to be all alone, meet people speaking different languages. Why do you want to go there?
I think of it as a life experience that I need to encounter. It’s a good thing. The more you face problems, the more experience you have. If you start turning away from problems, even the small ones, next time you are going to keep turning away. It’s like those who don’t like English and try to avoid learning English by saying they don’t like and are not good at English. If you turn away with just small matters, you will turn away from every problem in the future.
